A New Model of Collaboration Between Builders and Specialists

Collaboration Is Being Rewired, Not Replaced

Isometric city illustration of collaboration between builders and specialists

The worst version of the AI conversation turns builders and specialists into opponents. Generalists say they can now do everything. Specialists say the generalists are dangerous. Both sides can find examples that make them feel right.

The useful story is less dramatic. More people can now start technical work with real artifacts, and specialists become more important when those artifacts need to become reliable systems.

That is not a replacement story. It is a sequencing story.

More People Can Start

The first change is initiation.

A product lead can bring a working sketch instead of a requirements document. An operations person can show the automation they mean. A consultant can prototype a client workflow before proposing the larger engagement. A founder can test the product shape before building a team around it.

This improves collaboration when the artifact is presented honestly: "This is a draft. It proves the direction is worth discussing. It does not prove the implementation is production-ready."

That sentence matters. Without it, the prototype becomes pressure. With it, the prototype becomes shared context.
